International patient support

Better Health Care is Our Mission

We coordinate the practical side of your medical journey in Thessaloniki and remain a reliable local point of contact throughout your stay.

About GMTP

A Local Partner You Can Trust

For an international patient, seeking healthcare in another country can be complex and overwhelming. Finding the right point of contact, communicating with healthcare professionals, arranging suitable accommodation and transportation, and navigating an unfamiliar environment can become a significant challenge — especially for patients with limited mobility or those who require additional support.

This is where we come in.

Based in Thessaloniki, Greece, we serve as a trusted local partner for international patients and their families. We connect patients with independent healthcare professionals and healthcare institutions and take care of the practical coordination surrounding their stay in Greece.

With many years of experience working with patients from different countries, we have developed an extensive professional network in Thessaloniki across a wide range of medical fields. This experience allows us to understand the local healthcare environment and help patients navigate their options without having to search for and contact healthcare professionals on their own.

We carefully review the information provided by each patient, help identify an appropriate point of contact and facilitate the initial communication. From that point onwards, we remain closely involved in the practical aspects of the patient’s stay, providing reliable support whenever it is needed.

Why Thessaloniki

Why Thessaloniki

Thessaloniki has a long-standing academic and clinical tradition in medicine.

The Aristotle University of Thessaloniki is home to one of the most established medical schools in Greece and Southeast Europe. Its School of Medicine has a long history of medical education, extensive clinical training and a strong connection with university hospitals and clinical practice. Its international academic profile and long-standing contribution to medical education are an important part of the city’s healthcare environment.

Thessaloniki is home to a strong community of experienced healthcare professionals and an extensive medical and academic network. At the same time, the city offers the qualities that can make a longer stay more comfortable for international patients and their families: a Mediterranean climate, proximity to the sea, natural surroundings, a welcoming atmosphere and the infrastructure of a major European city.

How we can help

Support Designed Around the Patient

01

Finding the Right Point of Contact

For an international patient, one of the first and most important questions is often where to begin.

Patients do not have to navigate this process alone.

Based on the information provided and our knowledge of the local professional environment, we help patients understand the available options and identify an appropriate point of contact for their individual enquiry. We then facilitate communication and the exchange of information with the relevant healthcare professional or institution.

For someone arriving from another country, having an experienced local partner who understands the environment, the language and the practical realities can make the entire process considerably clearer and more manageable.

02

Accommodation Designed Around the Patient

For patients with limited mobility, finding genuinely suitable accommodation in Thessaloniki can be particularly difficult.

A property may appear accessible at first but still have significant practical obstacles: steps at the entrance, narrow lifts that cannot accommodate a wheelchair, or no convenient place for a vehicle to stop close to the building. Even getting in and out of a car can become extremely difficult when access is limited.

Bathrooms can be too narrow or simply not designed for people with reduced mobility. Kitchens may have insufficient space for comfortable movement or may not be practical for someone using a wheelchair.

We work with apartments that have been specifically selected and equipped with these needs in mind. The apartments offer spacious layouts, fully equipped kitchens with sufficient room for comfortable movement, accessible bathrooms and carefully considered details throughout the living space.

Another important advantage is their location: the apartments are just a few minutes from the sea, allowing patients and their families to enjoy Thessaloniki’s coastal environment while remaining close to the city and its everyday amenities.

We believe that suitable accommodation is not a minor detail. For a patient staying in Greece for an extended period, the right living environment can have a significant impact on comfort, independence and peace of mind.

03

Transportation and Assistance During Visits

Transportation can be another important part of a patient’s stay.

We assist in coordinating suitable transportation according to the individual circumstances of each patient, including appropriate vehicles and, where necessary, contact with ambulance services. We help with the practical logistics of travelling to and from appointments and other necessary destinations.

When appropriate, we accompany patients during their visits and assist with communication, translation, orientation and practical matters.

For patients and their families, having someone they know and trust available on the ground provides reassurance at moments when unfamiliar surroundings and language barriers can otherwise make things much more difficult.

04

Support Throughout the Stay

Our involvement extends throughout the patient’s time in Greece.

We remain available to assist with communication, translation, appointments, transportation, accommodation-related matters and the many practical issues that can arise during a longer stay.

For accompanying family members, this support is equally valuable. Knowing that there is an experienced local contact who understands the situation allows them to concentrate on supporting their loved one rather than having to manage every practical detail themselves.

05

Rehabilitation in Greece

We receive enquiries from international patients considering rehabilitation in Greece and provide comprehensive practical and communication support throughout their stay.

Drawing on our experience and professional network, we help patients navigate the available options and establish contact with relevant healthcare professionals and institutions. We can assist with communication, translation, accommodation, transportation, local orientation and the everyday arrangements that become particularly important during a longer rehabilitation stay.

06

Continued Support After Returning Home

Our relationship with a patient does not necessarily end when they leave Greece.

In many cases, patients continue to require communication with healthcare professionals they have met in Greece, while maintaining contact with their own doctors and healthcare providers in their home country. We remain available to help facilitate this communication and, when needed, coordinate online consultations and the exchange of information between the relevant parties.

Our support can continue for a very long time after the patient has returned home. Some of the relationships we have built over the years have lasted for many years, and in some cases we have remained in contact with patients for a decade or more.

For us, this is an important part of what it means to support an international patient. We do not see our role as limited to the period of a patient’s stay in Greece. When a trusted connection has been established, we remain available whenever our assistance can be useful.

A trusted partner. A brighter tomorrow.

A Trusted Long-Term Partner

Over the years, we have worked with patients and families from many different countries, as well as with charitable organisations and other partners supporting people who travel abroad for healthcare.

This experience has taught us that every case is different. Patients and families need not only information, but a reliable person on the ground who understands their circumstances, responds when something needs to be resolved and remains involved throughout the process.

Our role goes far beyond making an introduction.

From the first enquiry and initial communication with healthcare professionals, through accommodation, transportation and support during the stay, to continued communication and online consultations after returning home, we remain a consistent point of contact for the patient and their family.

We approach every situation individually, with attention to detail, discretion, responsiveness and genuine personal care.

Our goal is to make the patient’s experience in Greece as clear, organised and comfortable as possible — while providing a reliable and lasting connection between international patients, healthcare professionals in Greece and the people supporting their care at home.
